Seek a Pure Heart

Categories: The Pastor's Blog

Last Night’s Summit lesson.

My greatest prayer for each of the students would be that they Seek to Have a Pure Heart – Only happens when we give our heart fully to God and leave it in his hands.  Then we know not just about God in our minds but we come to “know” God in an intimate, authentic and personal way.

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God” (Matt. 5:8).

The Bible clearly teaches that  “the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked”   (Jer. 17:9).

So we come to God:

  1. Seeing ourselves as we truly are: A sinner in need of grace & forgiveness. Psalm 51:10

(If we want to be happy – seek to be holy – don’t chase happiness, chase holiness)

We are like a large iceberg – let God help with the under water – inside your heart part. We tend to ignore that.

  1. Seek God with our whole heart – sponge illustration – clean water represents the Holy Spirit – when life’s struggles comes and squeezes you what’s inside comes out.  The sponge in the dirty water represents our attempts to be righteous on our own, filthy comes out no matter how many times we dip it in and squeeze.

Ask God to help us by filling our lives with him.

HS will help to Plant thoughts that reap pure actions                         HS will help to Plant actions reap godly habits                                          HS will help to Plant godly habits reap godly character                           HS will help to Plant character reaps God’s destiny for us

It all comes from God

None of this comes by accident – we have to intentionally want it to happen

At every point it requires a real relationship with God where we invest in this relationship with God. The goal is not that we will never have a bad thought but to help us give that thought over to Jesus asap.

Relationship = time in God’s Word/Prayer/Worship/Fellowship

  1. Give God our heart for keeps

New Life Drama Video – The Heart – the young man begins by giving his heart to God only to take it back to give to a girl who when she gets bored tramples all over his heart because of selfishness.  Something we can easily do when we don’t trust God with our heart. It is only when the young man sees himself as he really is and confesses his sin that he turns and gives God his heart and determines to leave it in his hands that he discovers God’s plan and protection over his life and experiences true joy.

Don’t try to hide sin – ask God to help you confess it and bring healing and a pure heart.

Psalm 90:8 You spread out our sins before you—our secret sins—and you see them all.

“Create in me a pure heart, oh God. Let me be like you in all my ways.” (Psalm 51:10).

There’s victory at the alter of the Lord.  His mercies are new each day.
